Sport fishing PDF Print E-mail

The most popular species for sport fishing are walleye, northern pike, lake trout and brook trout.

Under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement, it is prohibited to fish lake sturgeon, whitefish, sucker (chub), burbot and goldeye recreationally in the James Bay region.

Fishing is prohibited in the Rivière à l'Eau Claire area in order to protect the salmonid species there.

CONDITIONS:

In addition to acquiring a fishing licence from the Government of Québec, users must also obtain a daily fishing pass from the Weh-Sees Indohoun Corporation in order to fish in the region. Passes are  issued free of charge and can be obtained either at the Weh-Sees Indohoun offices, by fax, or through this Website (48 hours before the fishing trip).

Anglers interested in fishing on Category I or II lands must first obtain permission from the Nemaska Band Council (819 673-2512) and then get a pass from the Weh-Sees Indohoun Corporation. Anglers interested in fishing on Waskaganish Category I or II lands need only obtain permission from the Waskaganish Band Council (819 895-8901).

At the end of their fishing trip, all anglers must declare their catches and return their passes to one of the Weh-Sees Indohoun offices (located at Nemiscau, Sarcelle and Eastmain workcamps).

In addition, anglers interested in fishing outside WSI territory are asked to declare their catches using the voluntary catch registration form, which is available at all WSI offices or on this Web site. It is important to note that, although voluntary, registering your catches is important, as it enables MRNF wildlife conservation officers to better manage the territory's ressources.

For more information on sportfishing regulations in the Weh-Sees Indohoun and Eastmain sectors, consult the MRNF brochure entitled Sport Fishing in Québec  (www.mrnf.gouv.qc.ca), as well as the sport fishing calendar produced specifically for these two sectors.
